The Indian Media Forum UAE, an association of Indian journalists in the region and DM Healthcare group will jointly organize a Stress Meet on Thursday (26th July 2012) to coincide with an iftar party on the same day to create an awareness about controlling stress and stress related illnesses like strokes, heart attacks and other medical emergencies.

The Stress meet will be chaired by the Indian Ambassador to the UAE, MK Lokesh and the subsequent medical camp and round table will be attended by eminent journalists and health experts. Stress related illnesses like heart attacks, strokes, diabetes etc is on the rise and people who work in the media are more vulnerable to such illnesses. 

Just before the Iftar on July 26, 2012 at the Park Regis Kris Kin Hotel, Dubai , there will be a discussion on "Stress @ workplace among journalists. Bikram Vohra, prominent Indian journalist and former editors of leading English dailies, ( Khaleej Times, Gulf News, Evening Post etc), will be among a panel of eminent speakers. "Journalism and stress are two sides of the same coin. Indian journalists in the UAE, like their global counterparts, face serious health risks and life-style diseases like heart attack, blood pressure, diabetes and depression due to work-related stress. Unfortunate incidences of unexpected death, stroke and other medical emergencies have affected the lives many journalists and their families living in the UAE. Some of our members have experienced medical emergencies in recent times and there is immediate need to create more awareness," said N Vijaya Mohan, President Indian Media Forum UAE. 

The expert panel of doctors who will guide journalists during the stress meet includes Dr Azad Mooppen, Chairman of DM Healthcare, Dr. Mohammed Yousaf, MBBS, DPM, MD (Psychiatry) Specialist Psychiatrist ASTER Medical centre, and Dr. Unnikrishna Varma MBBS, DA, DNB (Anesthesiology) Specialist Anesthetist & Medical Director, ASTER Hospital - Bur Dubai DM Healthcare will be guiding journalists throughout the programme.

"It was against this background that the IMF is joining hands with DM Healthcare to create some awareness among the journalist fraternity about the risks they face and the ways to avoid them.

Health experts present at the event will provide proper guidance about chronic and fatal lifestyle diseases, especially heart attacks. Editors, health specialists and members of the Indian Media Forum will attend the programme," said VM Sathish, Coordinator, Stress Meet and Indian Media Forum UAE vice president. "We will also remember an eminent Indian journalist, Gopal Bhattacharya, who had died of heart attack in Dubai. Journalists have an important role need to get maximum medical attention," he added. Some of the former friends of Gopal will also share their thoughts about the well-known Indian journalist who has worked in various English newspapers in Dubai and Muscat. 

Participants will also get a basic life support system kit, which will be useful in an emergency. "Some of our senior journalist friends who have also faced medical emergencies will be sharing their experience during the meet. Indian Media Forum UAE is an association representing Indian journalists working in the audi, visual, print and online media in the UAE. The organization work for the welfare of Indian journalists.
