NYF 2016 International Radio Program Awards Open for Entries

 

New Categories for 2016: Biography/Profiles, Climate Change & Sustainability, and Music

The 2016 New York Festivals International Radio Program Awards is now open for entries.

 World-wide since 1982, New York Festivals International Radio Program Awards honors the World’s Best Radio Programs℠, receiving entries from radio stations, networks, and independent producers from 32 countries around the globe.

“New York Festivals recognizes the ever-evolving nature of the radio industry”, said Rose Anderson, Executive Director of New York Festivals International Radio Program Awards. “Time does not stand still in the radio industry – new ways of reaching listeners and new ways of telling the important stories of our day drive change. So, every year, we work with our advisory board and we update some categories as well as create new ones.  It is an organic ecosystem. We embrace the new while keeping the best practices of what has come before.” 

This year, NYF expanded their dynamic category roster by adding three additional documentary categories: Biography/Profiles, Climate Change & Sustainability, and Music. The newly launched categories will provide a platform for those with a distinctive voice and point of view regarding issues and topics of interest.  as well as create new ones.  It is an organic ecosystem.

News headlines around the world feature reports about global climate changes and efforts to balance the effects. The recently unveiled Climate Change and Sustainability category will recognize programs that address the critical issues of climate change on our planet and in-depth perspectives on sustainability awareness.  

“In our ever-changing world, radio is the original social media,” said Ms. Anderson. “There is a universal language of radio which connects us all – giving us the ability to meet directly in each other’s imagination and guided by the textures of sound to understand each other.”

In 2015, NYF honored three outstanding programs with Grand Trophies.  “D-Day: 70 Years On” TBI Media United Kingdom with Snappin’ Turtle Productions received the Grand Award in the Best Special Event category for their program honoring the 70th anniversary of the Normandy Landings. “The New York Philharmonic This Week” earned the Grand Award for Best Regularly Scheduled Music Program and “60 Words” WNYC - Radiolab USA was honored with the Grand Award in the National or International Affairs category.

New York Festivals Radio Awards Advisory Board is comprised of prominent international executives recognized as thought-leaders in the radio broadcasting industry. These individuals function as a sounding board for the competition’s executive director, offering suggestions for category updates and sharing ideas, trends, and other concerns that impact radio broadcasting. Their guidance insures that the competition is relevant and in step with the ever-changing radio industry. 

New York Festivals Radio Awards enlists jurists from all over the world to become members of the Grand Jury. The Grand Jury includes some of the most recognizable voices and captivating programming producers in the industry. Entries are judged on production values, organization, presentation of information, creativity, and use of the medium. 

Since 1990, NYF and the United Nations Department of Public Information have offered the opportunity for the competition’s entrants to be awarded the United Nations Department of Public Information Award. This coveted award honors radio broadcasting that best exemplifies the ideals and goals of the United Nations.   

Join New York Festivals Monday June 20, 2016 as we honor the World’s Best Radio Programs at an awards ceremony at Manhattan Penthouse in New York City.

The deadline for entering the 2016 World’s Best Radio Programs competition is March 18, 2016.
